Good Bye 2014!

For the last blog post of 2014 I made for you this postcard with one of my favorite flowers. I hope to surprise you in a pleasant way, because as you may see, it is not about snow and winter. The weather is cold and bitter and there is a lot of snow outside. That's why I decided to choose a background that better illustrates my wishes for you for the new year to come.
In my first newsletter of 2015 you will find a useful gift related with this postcard.

Soooo,
Have a beautiful 2015, my dears!
Thank you for supporting my way in the Quilting Land!

Preparing for the White Season - Work in Progress

It's still fall but I started thinking about the winter.
I don't like it at all. That's why I make big efforts to be creative in the winter.
Using some bits of the warm-season-enthusiasm, I'm working on a quilt with only two fabrics. One-solid, one-printed. One-white, one-grey.

The tiny white dots on grey are among my favorite prints ever.
I have included my block pattern in the layout, changing its scale.

As always, it was very hard to chose only one from the many layout versions I made.

It will be a large quilt, so please, wish me luck!

Have a beautiful and warm weekend, my dears!

An apron for a Future Mom

The gift was delivered. I can show you now whose is the happy face from the last post, drawn especially for this occasion, by my friend, artist Lenus Dragulelei.

This is an apron I made for a future mom who is a passionate baker. She makes the most delicious and beautiful sourdough bread. I wrote about her a wile ago, but that post is in Romanian. Maybe Google Translate will help a little.
It was quite difficult to sew the appliqued baby. The white fabric unraveled quite easy, but I liked the baby better having these unfinished edges than a smooth, fine line, sewn by hand.

This is the second attempt. First time I secured the edges with a black narrow zigzag stitch. When all the baby parts were sewn I realized that I don't like it at all. Too much black contrasting with the cute little one. It looked like someone who has no idea of sewing struggled to show her best intention.
I thanked once again  the one who invented the seam ripper and I cleaned all up.
Second time I used a simple straight stitch and now everything looks much better. At least I think so.

I kept the colors, the style and of course, the logo used on previous aprons I made for her.
Now I am released.
All is well when it ends well!
I'm heading to the next project!

Have a beautiful day, my dears!

Happy Face

Not much sewing here these days. Yet something it was finished and now is ready to go to its owner.
Because it is a surprise, only a sneak peek for now!

This cute face was drawn by artist Elena Dragulelei. Our collaboration began with the Owl Quilt and will continue with other fabrics projects quilted or not quilted.

Have a beautiful day, my dears!

Hello!

This is my first participation in the Blogger's Quilt Festival held at Amy's Creative Side.
Thank you, Amy!
AmysCreativeSide.com

Among a lot of other urgent things, last week I worked hard at this feathered fellow.

Feathered it's only a way of saying. A lot of quilting I had to do!

All began when I saw this cute owl drawing made by my friend Lenus Dragulelei, a very talented Romanian artist who creates illustration for children books. My brain wheels started to roll quickly:
How I could turn the drawn owl in a quilt, but otherwise than only by applique? And the only thing that came in my head was an owl-by-itself quilt, if I may say so.

And step by step, thinking on the go, imagining how should be this or that, I managed to do it.

Because I am the kind of girl who likes to complicate her life, I told to myself that I will not like at all to see the eyes quilted on the quilt/owl back. And I made it a different appropriate quilting.

The only thing that did not came out how I wanted is the dimension. It had to measure about 36" long, but instead, it measures  less than 30". I wasn't paying attention when I did the sketch.

Even so, it could be at least a funny wall quilt.
Surely, the second one will have the right dimension to cover a little girl or a little boy from nose to toes.

I have entered my owl-quilt in Blogger's Quilt Festival Mini Quilt Category.
If you have a little time to spend, please come and vote for your favorite quilt!

Season quilting

Here is one of my wanderings between traditional and contemporary/modern quilting.

Who can decide the boundary between the two concepts?
After all what is important is the result.
I made this table mat driven by this season colours and subjects. As always, the most difficult moment was: how I will quilt this?

I confess that I'm unhappy about how I pieced my triangles points. During piecing I was paying attention at this aspect but it seams that it was not enough.

Well, let's move forward!

Trick or Treat?

It's too early for this, I know, but how could I call this little bag otherwise?

I made it based on this block.

Think positive?!

I had a full Sunday. My little family was reunited for a happy reason. We slept late night but I dreamed beautiful.  This morning somebody-up-there decided to bring me suddenly down to Earth like this:
1. My laptop broke down.
2. My washing machine broke down.
I stop here my list in order to.... think positive.

So, I have only one illustration today. But a cheery one (I hope!). Like a golden Autumn day.
One block I used already for a small project  I will show you when things will calm down here.

Have a beautiful week, my dears!

Late Summer Little Bag

Do you remember the last post?
Well, one piece of the painted fabrics became the new member of my Colibri bags family. I called it Late Summer.

Looking for something to match the painted fabrics, I discovered pieces of denim, cloth, corduroy and others, forgotten in the hidden nooks of the cabinet. When I saw them I was very happy because they were just right for the Autumn bags.
I was happy too working again after a long time, with combinations of fabrics having different compositions, thicknesses and textures.
For this bag I chose a thin blue corduroy fabric because it seemed to me that the painted fabric needs it as a still but not quiet companion.

It turned out a cheerful and handy little bag, big enough to host the essential things and small enough to wear it as a chic accessory.

Between Summer and Autumn

I'm still making Colibri little bags. I'm trying to fit the shape with the fabric print.
Because I didn't have fabric suitable for making bags, I tried my hand on two pieces of white fabric.

I painted one thinking about summer:

I like how the puffy paint gives a 3D layout.

and the other one thinking about autumn:

Nothing spectacular, but now I have what I need in no time and without spending any money.

Back to work!

Have a beautiful day!

Colibri - another little bag

The second cross-body little bag is ready.
Colibri is a Hummingbird group. When I was thinking how I will name the new bag, the first thing that came into my head looking at it, was this tiny bird.

In the previous post I showed you the first little bag.
I changed its shape and I quilted it following the fabric print, doodling on the go.

How fun it is to make a bag having only 7" x 8"! It can be done in a few hours.
I simple love this crazy printed fabric! I made out this little bags more for the sake of it.

The same bag, the other side.

I made it two compartments, one of them being closed with Velcro.

Let's see what will come up!

Have a beautiful day, my dears!
