Lazy Cat - a toy pillow

The perfect companion in a rainy day - a lazy cat, isn't it ?

I'm still working on this project trying to turn the drawn character of my friend, visual artist Elena Dragulelei, in a cute and comfortable toy-pillow both for children and the adults with the soul of a child.

Here are my first four tests:

And here is my fifth:

Others may follow, but in a completely different register of colors.
One big problem is that we didn't decided how we will call him. Any suggestion?

You may see other results of our collaboration here, here and here.

Back to work now.

I'm flying! - a baby quilt

The baby quilt is ready. Now I can really say "I'm flying!"

The pale blue fabric I used as background in the main panel surprised me in a bad way: after I washed the quilt the color became almost white. But the only person to blame is me.

I place this piece of fabric in the wrong place, the good-to-use-fabrics closet.
Some time ago, I tested few textile dyes. They proved to be bad quality because despite the manufacturer's instructions, the dyes faded out in the rinsing water. Among other colors, I tested also the blue color.

Usually after I buy fabrics, on each piece I pin a short note with the main information : if it was pre-washed or not, if the color is stable or not and sometimes its dimensions.
In this case I didn't do this.
So, this quilt will stay with me.
But I have one more reason to keep it: the drawing was made a few month ago, for my birthday by my friend Elena Dragulelei with whom I collaborate on some projects. You may see one here, one here and another one here.

Lesson learned: be organized!

Have a beautiful day!

I'm flying! ( work in progress)

I finished the top of a baby quilt. A lot of applique. Raw edge applique.
Here is its centerpiece.

Now I'm quilting it. Do you see those little fingers? Imagine you have to follow their edges with quite narrow zig-zag stitches. Funny isn't it?
I only hope I will not ruin it.

New Kid in town

Here is the guy from my previous post.

Another collaboration with Romanian artist Lenus Dragulelei
He says:
Good bye Winter! Welcome Spring!

A cheerful pillow perfect for lifting the spirit, isn't it?

An apron for a Future Mom

The gift was delivered. I can show you now whose is the happy face from the last post, drawn especially for this occasion, by my friend, artist Lenus Dragulelei.

This is an apron I made for a future mom who is a passionate baker. She makes the most delicious and beautiful sourdough bread. I wrote about her a wile ago, but that post is in Romanian. Maybe Google Translate will help a little.
It was quite difficult to sew the appliqued baby. The white fabric unraveled quite easy, but I liked the baby better having these unfinished edges than a smooth, fine line, sewn by hand.

This is the second attempt. First time I secured the edges with a black narrow zigzag stitch. When all the baby parts were sewn I realized that I don't like it at all. Too much black contrasting with the cute little one. It looked like someone who has no idea of sewing struggled to show her best intention.
I thanked once again  the one who invented the seam ripper and I cleaned all up.
Second time I used a simple straight stitch and now everything looks much better. At least I think so.

I kept the colors, the style and of course, the logo used on previous aprons I made for her.
Now I am released.
All is well when it ends well!
I'm heading to the next project!

Have a beautiful day, my dears!

Happy Face

Not much sewing here these days. Yet something it was finished and now is ready to go to its owner.
Because it is a surprise, only a sneak peek for now!

This cute face was drawn by artist Elena Dragulelei. Our collaboration began with the Owl Quilt and will continue with other fabrics projects quilted or not quilted.

Have a beautiful day, my dears!

Hello!

This is my first participation in the Blogger's Quilt Festival held at Amy's Creative Side.
Thank you, Amy!
AmysCreativeSide.com

Among a lot of other urgent things, last week I worked hard at this feathered fellow.

Feathered it's only a way of saying. A lot of quilting I had to do!

All began when I saw this cute owl drawing made by my friend Lenus Dragulelei, a very talented Romanian artist who creates illustration for children books. My brain wheels started to roll quickly:
How I could turn the drawn owl in a quilt, but otherwise than only by applique? And the only thing that came in my head was an owl-by-itself quilt, if I may say so.

And step by step, thinking on the go, imagining how should be this or that, I managed to do it.

Because I am the kind of girl who likes to complicate her life, I told to myself that I will not like at all to see the eyes quilted on the quilt/owl back. And I made it a different appropriate quilting.

The only thing that did not came out how I wanted is the dimension. It had to measure about 36" long, but instead, it measures  less than 30". I wasn't paying attention when I did the sketch.

Even so, it could be at least a funny wall quilt.
Surely, the second one will have the right dimension to cover a little girl or a little boy from nose to toes.

I have entered my owl-quilt in Blogger's Quilt Festival Mini Quilt Category.
If you have a little time to spend, please come and vote for your favorite quilt!
