Spring 2015 Blogger's Quilt Festival

In the last minute I decided to participate in the Bloggers Quilt Festival held at Amy's Creative Side.
This is my second participation in the Festival.
This time it's my applique baby quilt "I'm flying!" finished recently.

The main panel is raw edge machine applique, after a drawing by Romanian artist Elena Dragulelei.

If you like to know a little more about it, please read this post.

The quilt measures 37" x 40".

Cotton fabrics for top, polyester batting and flannel for backing. I used Amann's Isacord threads and I quilted it on my domestic sewing machine.

I have entered "I'm flying" quilt in Blogger's Quilt Festival Applique Quilts category

If you have little time to spend, please come and visit the Festival, vote for your favorite quilt and be inspired!
The voting will be open from 22 May until 29 May. Winners will be announced on 30 May.

Thank you for your visit!
Enjoy the Spring 2015 Bloggers Quilt Festival!

I'm linking to finish it up Friday! too.

Have a beautiful day, my dears!

I'm flying! - a baby quilt

The baby quilt is ready. Now I can really say "I'm flying!"

The pale blue fabric I used as background in the main panel surprised me in a bad way: after I washed the quilt the color became almost white. But the only person to blame is me.

I place this piece of fabric in the wrong place, the good-to-use-fabrics closet.
Some time ago, I tested few textile dyes. They proved to be bad quality because despite the manufacturer's instructions, the dyes faded out in the rinsing water. Among other colors, I tested also the blue color.

Usually after I buy fabrics, on each piece I pin a short note with the main information : if it was pre-washed or not, if the color is stable or not and sometimes its dimensions.
In this case I didn't do this.
So, this quilt will stay with me.
But I have one more reason to keep it: the drawing was made a few month ago, for my birthday by my friend Elena Dragulelei with whom I collaborate on some projects. You may see one here, one here and another one here.

Lesson learned: be organized!

Have a beautiful day!

Hello!

This is my first participation in the Blogger's Quilt Festival held at Amy's Creative Side.
Thank you, Amy!

Among a lot of other urgent things, last week I worked hard at this feathered fellow.

Feathered it's only a way of saying. A lot of quilting I had to do!

All began when I saw this cute owl drawing made by my friend Lenus Dragulelei, a very talented Romanian artist who creates illustration for children books. My brain wheels started to roll quickly:
How I could turn the drawn owl in a quilt, but otherwise than only by applique? And the only thing that came in my head was an owl-by-itself quilt, if I may say so.

And step by step, thinking on the go, imagining how should be this or that, I managed to do it.

Because I am the kind of girl who likes to complicate her life, I told to myself that I will not like at all to see the eyes quilted on the quilt/owl back. And I made it a different appropriate quilting.

The only thing that did not came out how I wanted is the dimension. It had to measure about 36" long, but instead, it measures  less than 30". I wasn't paying attention when I did the sketch.

Even so, it could be at least a funny wall quilt.
Surely, the second one will have the right dimension to cover a little girl or a little boy from nose to toes.

I have entered my owl-quilt in Blogger's Quilt Festival Mini Quilt Category.
If you have a little time to spend, please come and vote for your favorite quilt!

Sweet dreams

The baby quilt is ready to go to its little boy.
It will accompany him several years, as it measures 36 "x 43".

The top is made from Kona cotton, Owl Wonderful by Olivia Audi and Tiles from Michael Miller. I used cotton batting and fleece for the back.
As usual, a big question was: How I will quilt it? I chose this:

A last minute decision was to round up only two corners just to make the edge to be part in the quilting design.

To brighten its look I added a striped binding, choosing some of the top colors.

I'm sure you understand me I can't wait to see how it will be received by its new family, as it will be a surprise.

Let's go now to the next project!

Have a beautiful day my dears!

Baby Quilt - WIP

Today I was supposed to finish this quilt, but my sewing machine contradicted me. It felt like visiting Brother sewing machines service. Luckily it was a short visit and it did not have to stay there.

In addition to this, my walking foot is becoming increasingly lazy. That's why my quilt got a specific model. Now the only thing I want is to manage to give this quilt at least a civilized look.
Then I'll see if it can be fixed or I have to buy another walking foot.
I hope you will have
A beautiful day!

On Wheels!/Pe roti!

Asteapta cuminte, dincolo!

Sa aveti o saptamana frumoasa!
