1st of March - Welcome Mărțișor!

Mărțișor is a traditional Romanian celebration on March 1st, marking the arrival of spring. It involves giving small red-and-white braided cords, often attached to charms, as symbols of good luck, health, and prosperity. People, especially women and children, wear these Mărțișor tokens throughout March as a sign of renewal and happiness. The tradition is also popular in Moldova and parts of Bulgaria.

My Mărțișor for you, my dear followers and customers, is this drawing of mine. Feel free to use it for your projects or as a postcard to send to someone you love.

If you need help for your sewing projects, you are welcome here, too.

Have a beautiful spring, my dears!

Valentine's Day Idea - "You & Me" free quilt pattern

For those of you loving to make with your own hands gifts for friends and family, I come with an idea for Valentine's Day and not only.
Of course, it's a quilt. An applique quilt. A little one, easy and fast to make measuring only 16 1/2 " x 16 1/2 ".
The layout is simple and versatile. The message is warm and tender. At least this was my intention.

Here is how it looks:
I used denim in deep navy blue color for the heart design.

The good news is that I am about to finish writing the pattern.

The better news is that You & Me quilt pattern is my gift for Valentine's Day for all of you considering my occasionally newsletters about my creative work in the Quilting Land deserve to be read and visiting my blog does not mean wasting of time.

In a few hours all my subscribers will receive the newsletter with the link leading to the You & Me quilt pattern free download.
It is a .pdf pattern. You can read it and print it with Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. If you don't have it, you can find it here for free.

The pattern has 10 pages full of step by step instructions, suggestions and tips, a lot of images and the printable templates for cutting the applique pieces.

You might use the "You & Me" design to make a pillow cover for worming up your or his/her soul in almost any kind of interior. Or why not, in all kind of colors or prints combinations, it could accompany you in almost any kind of exterior relaxing place. It might be also an inspired engagement or wedding gift.

Free printable for Christmas

I was preparing gifts for Christmas when I realized that I need paper tags or cards to attach on each one. As my printer just said to me that the color ink is low, instead of using plain pieces of paper to write my words, I quickly drew a template for 10 simple cards/tags that require only black ink.
And because sharing is caring, I am sharing them with you, my readers, as a little Thank you for the support that you have given to me throughout 2015.

I wrote "Happy Holidays" trying to enlarge the recipients circle.

Right click on the photo, choose Save As, save it in your computer and print it. I suggest you to use the " Scale to paper size" feature. Cut out the rectangles.
To use them as tags, use a paper punch to make a hole with, for the ribbon.
This free printable image is for personal use only!

A short reminder:
If you need to sew a quick project, my Granny Stocking pattern is still on sale until December 23!

Free Design

I'm still working on some designs. In the last post I showed you a few.
Today I will share with you one more.

It is a printable design for my subscribers. More details about it are in my newsletter.
The main motif of this design might be used for composing quilting patterns but also for raw edge applique or for block printing and for many mixed media projects.

These being said, I wish you to enjoy my design and of course,

Have a beautiful day!

Love Thoughts - Valentine Embroidered Patchwork Pillow - Free Pattern

It's the end of January and I have spent about half of it pondering, drawing and sewing for this Valentine themed project. It came out one Heart Quilt Block and two Embroidery Designs: one for Her and one for Him.

Trying to suggest rather than explicitly show, I decorated "his" heart with straight lines and "her" heart with curved lines. My favorite source of inspiration - as always, Romanian needlepoint stitches.

An important mention: it is a quick project. It takes just a few hours to sew it, including the embroidered heart.
I equally thought about embroiderers and quilters: I made the two designs applicable both for embroideries and quilting designs. As you will see below, they are forgiving designs. They don't require perfection.

If you want to add a fresh look to your Valentine gifts, give it a try!

Please respect my work - Note that this pattern and designs are for individual use only. Not for resale. If you show them on your blog, site, Pinterest, Flickr..., don't forget to add the link back here, on my blog.

Sewing Instructions

Use illustrations bellow as a layout guide:

8) Add the border

9) Print the embroidery design

For each of the two designs follow the same steps:
Right-click on the image. Select "Save as..." and save it on your computer. Print it in the original size. Measure the 1" square to verify if the scale is correct. The drawing fits on a single page. It doesn't matter if the print is a bit smaller or bigger as long the heart outline fits the background heart pieced block.

"Hers" Embroidery design

10) Transfer the design onto the pillow front using a water-soluble pen.

11) Add the embroidery  - optional step!
To prepare to embroider spray a piece of stabilizer with temporary adhesive on the wrong side of the pillow front and smooth the fabric on top. You don't need a hoop.

For "His" design I used the applique foot that gave me a large field of visibility.
I chose two standard stitches of the sewing machine: satin stitch for the outline and straight stitch for the inside design.

For "Hers" design I used the applique foot for the outline and the free motion foot for the inside design.

Once the design is finished trim away the excess stabilizer on the back.

12) Quilting the pillow front

If you stitched the embroidery - Center the pillow front with its wrong side on the piece of batting. You don't need backing. Quilt the rest of the pillow front as desired.

If you did not embroider  - stitch through both layers quilting first the traced heart pattern. Quilt the rest of the pillow front as desired.

Wash the pillow front to get rid of pen traces.
While it dries prepare the pillow back.
Join the front and the back together.
Done!

All you need is love...

...well, not quite all, almost all, I would dare to say...
But John Lennon' s song came in my mind, first, today.
Why today? I'm sure you know: It's Valentine's Day!
For you all, my blog visitors, celebrating it, here is a free design.

You may use it for your personal projects: birthday cards, printing on wrapping paper, scrapbook, applique on fabrics, embroidery....your imagination is the limit.
A simple "thank you"  would make me happy.
And of course, if you will use it in any of your projects, please, do not forget to mention its author (a  link to my blog) .

Happy Valentine's Day!

Have a beautiful day!
